SGIL is looking for an experienced Production Manager to lead its Type B (alkaline/liming-process) edible gelatin production line. The role is responsible for end-to-end production performance — from raw hide pretreatment and liming through extraction, filtration, concentration, drying and finishing — ensuring consistent yield, quality and food-safety compliance.
This is a hands-on, factory-based leadership role requiring close coordination with Quality Assurance, Maintenance, Warehouse and HSE teams, as well as direct supervision of shift supervisors and production staff on the floor.
Key responsibilities
Production planning & execution
- Plan and oversee daily, weekly and monthly production schedules for the Type B edible gelatin line
- Manage the full Type B process flow: liming/alkaline pretreatment, washing, extraction, filtration, concentration, drying and milling
- Monitor and control key process parameters (pH, temperature, extraction time, viscosity, Bloom strength) to meet approved specifications
- Ensure production targets for output, yield and efficiency are consistently met
- Coordinate raw material (hide/ossein) availability and pretreatment scheduling with Procurement and Warehouse
Quality & compliance
- Ensure production operations comply with FSSC 22000, HACCP, ISO 9001, Halal and Kosher requirements
- Work closely with Quality Assurance to ensure in-process checks and batch release criteria are consistently met
- Investigate and resolve process deviations, out-of-specification batches and customer complaints related to production
- Maintain accurate production, batch and process records for traceability and audits
- Support internal and external audits (certification bodies, customer audits, regulatory inspections)
Team & shift management
- Supervise shift supervisors, machine operators and production staff across the Type B line
- Plan manpower and shift coverage in coordination with HR to ensure continuous operations
- Train and develop production staff on process parameters, SOPs, hygiene and safety requirements
- Enforce workplace discipline, GMP and food-safety hygiene practices on the production floor
- Conduct performance reviews and provide coaching to direct reports
Equipment & process improvement
- Coordinate with the Maintenance department on preventive and corrective maintenance of extraction, filtration, evaporation and drying equipment
- Identify and implement process improvements to increase yield, reduce waste and improve energy/utility efficiency
- Support capacity expansion, new equipment commissioning and process optimisation projects
- Monitor and reduce production downtime through root-cause analysis and corrective action
Health, safety & environment
- Ensure production activities comply with HSE policies and applicable safety regulations
- Promote safe handling of chemicals (lime, acids/alkalis) used in the pretreatment process
- Support effluent and by-product handling in line with environmental requirements
- Report and investigate safety incidents and near-misses on the production floor
Reporting
- Prepare daily and periodic production reports for plant and senior management
- Track and report on key production KPIs (yield, output, downtime, quality rejects, utility consumption)
- Provide input into production budgeting and cost-control initiatives
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Food Technology, Biochemistry or a related discipline
- Additional certification in food safety systems (HACCP, FSSC 22000) will be an advantage
Experience
- 5+ years of production experience in gelatin, collagen, or a related chemical/food processing industry
- Prior experience specifically with Type B (alkaline/liming) gelatin processing strongly preferred
- Demonstrated experience supervising production teams in a continuous manufacturing environment
- Experience working within FSSC 22000 / HACCP / Halal / Kosher certified facilities
Ideal candidate
We are looking for a technically strong, hands-on production leader who is comfortable being on the floor, working directly with operators and supervisors, and taking ownership of process performance, quality and safety across the Type B gelatin line.
The ideal candidate combines solid process knowledge of alkaline gelatin extraction with practical people-management skills, and is able to make sound decisions under the pace of continuous manufacturing operations.
Working environment
This is a factory-based position requiring regular physical presence on the production floor, including exposure to an industrial processing environment. The candidate should be comfortable supporting shift-based operations associated with continuous manufacturing.
SGIL is investing in production capacity, process upgrades and next-generation gelatin technologies, offering potential for career growth into senior plant and operations roles.
